Phulkari
/ ful.ka.ree / nounPhulkari is the folk embroidery of Punjab, India, symbolizing tradition and heritage. Directly Translated as "floral work", the designs also include motifs of geometric shapes
We feel that our launch collection, Phulkari, is the perfect way to introduce Sanzaar to the world. We wanted our first collection to be close to home, so we sought inspiration from our roots. With close cultural ties to Punjab, we knew we wanted to bring this rich, unique & beautiful handicraft talent and artisanal techniques to fresh audiences of the West.
Combining Phulkari patterns, geometrical motifs and woodblock printing, we've created unique prints on every piece in our collection. Our embroidery also gives homage to the authentic art of "darn stitch", which is prevalent in Phulkari. Subtle embellishments inspired by Punjabi culture, such as the use of mirrors and seashells, is another way our pieces represent and pay homage to our Eastern roots.
